Wagyu vs. Angus: Discover the Best Cuts for your BBQs

One of the greatest joys in life is getting together with loved ones, friends and family to enjoy a spread of delicious home-cooked food. Every family has their own favourite dishes, but we’re sure you’ll agree that nothing beats the fun of hosting a laid-back BBQ, complete with cold drinks, upbeat tunes, and of course all the delicious juicy meats you can manage.

Indeed, with summer fast approaching in the Middle East, there has never been a better time to maximise the last few weeks of pleasant weather and invite your loved ones round for a BBQ. If you’re looking for somewhere to purchase your BBQ supplies, make sure to remember that our chillers are fully stocked with all kinds of gourmet beef, lamb, veal, and poultry products that are just waiting to be delivered to your front door.

However, with so much choice available, we understand that it can be hard to know which products to choose for your BBQ, and in particular which type of beef is best for grilling and serving up outdoors. With this in mind, we have decided to put together a detailed analysis of the great Wagyu vs Angus beef debate, and provide a few ideas for how you can make your next BBQ your best one yet.

Differences between Wagyu and Angus beef

Taste

While both Wagyu and Angus are highly delicious types of meat, they do differ slightly in terms of flavour and texture. For example, Wagyu is famous for its intense marbling, and it's incredibly tender, juicy and soft texture.  One of the world’s most luxurious types of meat, it is also derived from only a few unique breeds of Japanese cattle.

Angus beef on the other hand, has a more robust and rich beefy flavour. Also considered one of the world's finest varieties of beef, it has slightly less marbling than Wagyu, and its high levels of muscle make it a satisfying and meaty cut for grilling.

However, it's important to remember that Angus beef can range greatly in quality, and so just because a product is made from Angus beef, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is a top-quality choice for you and your family.  Fortunately, here at Prime Gourmet, we stock only the finest premium Angus and Wagyu products, making it easy for you to select the perfect additions to your BBQ.

Diet

The food that a cow eats significantly impacts the flavour of the beef it produces. Wagyu cattle are often fed on a specialized grain-based diet that is designed to enhance marbling, while Angus cattle are typically grass-fed, and sometimes finished on a grain diet.

Health qualities

Wagyu and Angus are both packed with vitamins and minerals. Along with being a great source of protein and zinc, they both contain healthy amounts of Vitamin B12 and Niacin, minerals that are essential for maintaining good immunity, skin health and an efficient digestive system.

However, some experts claim that Wagyu is 'more healthy' than Angus because of its high levels of omega 3 and omega 6 fat, and the fact that it contains little to no levels of cholesterol.

Price

As mentioned above, both Wagyu and Angus are premium beef varieties, and so they are naturally on the pricier end of the spectrum. However, due to its exclusivity and the fact that it isn’t readily available in Europe and other regions, Wagyu generally tends to be more expensive than Angus.
