This years’ competition featured a record-breaking 58 entries from Australian Wagyu beef brands, and each one was expertly judged on five different criteria: visual appeal, juiciness, flavour, aroma, and texture.
Further confirming its place as one of the world’s leading Wagyu beef producers, Stockyard Beef has won an extraordinary 45 medals since the AWA competition was first launched in 2012.
A history of steak category wins
In the 2023 edition, kiwami by Stockyard secured the Reserve Champion award for the very first time in the brand’s history, a gold medal within the Fullblood Japanese Black Steak category, and a silver medal within the Purebred Wagyu Steak category.
Boasting an exceptionally high marble score of 9+, kiwami by Stockyard is the company’s pinnacle Wagyu brand and it has won an incredible 23 Wagyu Branded Beef Competition gold medals in just four years. The panel of 36 judges, consisting of sponsors, chefs, restaurateurs, food critics, Wagyu producers, butchers and industry personnel, described the winning cuts as “beautiful and silky, succulent and moist with buttery tones.”
Meanwhile, Stockyard Black, which holds a marble score of between 8 and 9, was awarded gold in the Crossbred Category.
Recognised for its incredible flavour and satisfying texture, the judges commented that Stockyard’s Wagyu beef steak was “beautifully tender with a sweet aroma and melting buttery flavour.”
Adding further excitement, Stockyard Beef was yet again recognised at the 2023 Royal Queensland Awards, the annual event dedicated to Australia’s finest dairy, wine, beer, lamb, and beef producers.
Announced on Friday, May 19, premium Angus brand Stockyard Gold won gold in the Branded Beef Open Class. Judged on appearance, tenderness, flavour, juiciness, and overall liking, it marked Stockyard Beef’s 15th gold award at the Royal Queensland Awards since it was established in 2009.
